The Vancouver Canucks are on the brink of elimination after falling down 3-1 in their best-of-seven series against the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday. The Canucks now face a must-win situation on Tuesday night in Game 5.

The Canucks erased a 2-1 Golden Knights lead in the first period with two goals in the second period to take a 3-2 lead into the second intermission. Vancouver was 20 minutes away from tying this series up at two games apiece, but Vegas roared back with three unanswered goals in the third period to take a 3-1 stranglehold over the Canucks. Tuesday night’s game will mark the first time that the Canucks have faced elimination this postseason after eliminating the Minnesota Wild in four games and the St. Louis Blues in six.

With losses in their last two games, the Canucks are just 3-5 in their last eight postseason games per the OddsShark NHL Database.

Vegas scored five goals on Vancouver for the second time in this series on Sunday night with Max Pacioretty leading the way with two goals and an assist. The Golden Knights are averaging 3.75 goals per game while allowing only 2.42 goals per game this postseason, good for the second best goal differential in the playoffs at +1.33 behind only the New York Islanders. With an 11-2 record in their last 13 games before the season was postponed and a 10-2 record since the postseason began, the Golden Knights are 21-4 over their last 25 games.

The Golden Knights have dominated most of this series with a 15-8 goal differential and two shutout wins. But while the situation looks grim, the Canucks have fought hard all postseason long and aren’t likely to go down without a fight in this one. The only question is whether or not that fight will be enough to upset one of the NHL’s best and hottest teams.
