Here we are, about to play game seven of the season and the Utica Comets are still undefeated. The six-and-oh! Comets welcome the 4-3-1-0 Hershey Bears, (Washington affiliate) for game number seven of the season.
The Bears last played to a 5-1 loss to the Rochester Americans while the Comets are coming off of a 5-1 victory over the Binghamton Devils.
Mike Sgarbossa leads all Hershey scorers with four goals and four assists to give himself eight points through eight games this year. Christian Djoos sits second with one goal and seven helpers, giving him eight points in eight games as well. Travis Boyd rounds out their top three with an impressive four goals and two assists to give himself six points in three games.
Axel Jonsson-Fjallby leads the Bears’ rookie crew with four goals and one assist to give himself five points in eight games, while defenders Brogan Rafferty and Olli Juolevi share the rookie crown in Utica with four points apiece through six games.
Reid Boucher leads the Comets, and the AHL with nine goals and three assists, giving him 12 points in six games. Nikolay Goldobin sits second with his one goal and nine helpers through five games. Goldy’s nine assists are tops in the AHL. Sven Baertschi rounds out the top three in Utica with his two goals and six assists, giving him eight points in five games.
The Bears have had 35 power plays this year and have picked up five PP goals for their efforts, giving themselves a success rate of 14.3% with the man advantage. Their penalty kill has given up five goals while shorthanded 32 times for a success rate of 84.4%. They have also scored three shorthanded goals, so that is something to keep an eye on today.
The Comets, for their part, have scored four times on 24 power play opportunities, giving them a success rate of 16.7% with the extra man. Their penalty kill has given up just two goals while down a man 26 times, giving them a success rate of 92.3%.
The Comets have outscored their competition by a count of 34-12 this season, while the Bears have scored 26 times and have given up 22.

The two clubs squared off for two games last year with each team coming away with a win. The Comets took the first game in a 3-2 overtime win, while the Bears took game two by a 4-1 score.
Former Comets forward Cam Darcy led the team with three points in the series, tying him with Arron Ness for the series lead. Reid Boucher, Zack MacEwen, Devante Smith-Pelly, and Lucas Johansen had two apiece.
