They were the two ‘major’ acquisitions for the Winnipeg Jets at this season’s trade deadline, and now they are going head to head in our next round of the JetsNation Gauntlet Series. Cody Eakin looks for his third win in a row as he goes up against Dylan DeMelo.

Cody Eakin’s gantlet path…

Cody hasn’t had much of a challenge in the two wins he’s picked up so far in the Gauntlet series. He won his four way play-in vote on May 8 quite handily over CJ Suess, Logan Shaw and Carl Dahlstrom. He then followed that up with a strong win over Andrei Chibisov.

There were a lot of questions on just how wise picking Eakin up was for the Jets, but there is no denying he fit in quite well with his new linemates Nikolaj Ehlers and Patrik Laine, which no doubt has helped him rack up points early on with his new team.

#12 – Dylan DeMelo

Acquired by the Jets in a trade with the Ottawa Senators for Winnipeg’s 3rd round pick in the 2020 Draft, DeMelo is a pending Unrestricted Free Agent this summer which is why the Jets were able to get him for such a bargain price. DeMelo seems like he would be a perfect fit for the Jets and their thinned out defensive group, as he took up a spot on the team’s top pairing with Josh Morrissey before the league paused.

There is also no denying he was quite the fan favorite during his brief time in Ottawa which had Jets fans not just excited to have added talent on defense, but a charasmatic personality off the ice as well…
