The Calgary Flames have announced their main training camp roster, and it’s their smallest roster in years. They have 55 players vying for up to 23 opening night roster spots, including a handful of players in town on try-outs.

The schedule

Fitness testing goes Thursday at Winsport, followed by on-ice sessions beginning Friday at the Saddledome. There will be two groups, rather than three as they’ve had in prior camps.

The Flames will be playing eight pre-season contests in the run-up to the regular season:

  • Mon., Sept. 16: at home vs. Vancouver (7 p.m. MT) and on the road in Victoria against Vancouver (8 p.m. MT, on Sportsnet One/West)
  • Wed., Sept. 18: at home vs. San Jose (7 p.m. MT)
  • Fri., Sept. 20: on the road in Edmonton (7 p.m. MT)
  • Sun., Sept. 22: on the road in Winnipeg (6 p.m. MT)
  • Tue., Sept. 24: at home vs. Winnipeg (7 p.m. MT)
