"We applaud NHL players for recognizing the importance of this minute and for coming together as part of a real movement for change," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. The moves come amid mounting pressure from current and previous minority players for the league to take concrete actions to resolve systemic racism. HDA's Chris George speaks on the racism he's endured in hockey:

The Hockey Diversity Alliance, an initiative led by Black NHL players, was critical in getting the league to hold off games last week as part of a player-led boycott after the cops shooting of Jacob Blake. In addition to gamers and NHLPA going through obligatory inclusion and diversity league, team and training staff members will take part in similar programs. Players talked at length about utilizing their platform to bring awareness to systemic bigotry, and the league made it a part of its pregame discussion when games resumed.

The NHL on Thursday revealed a series of anti-racism initiatives more than 8 months after Akim Aliu brought the topic to the leading edge in the mainly white sport.

The league and NHL Players' Association are planning obligatory addition and variety training for all gamers at camp; partnering with the Hockey Diversity Alliance to introduce a grassroots program for young players of colour in the Toronto area; and working together on a number of inclusion committees aimed at motivating variety among executives, pro and youth players and fans.

"We applaud NHL players for acknowledging the significance of this minute and for coming together as part of a genuine movement for modification," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman stated. "We eagerly anticipate dealing with all voices of change to eliminate for equality and expand access to the game we all enjoy."

The moves come amidst mounting pressure from former and present minority gamers for the league to take concrete steps to deal with systemic bigotry. Colorado's Nazem Kadri, a founding member of the alliance that was formed earlier this summer, examined the initiatives before they were revealed and thinks they reveal development.

"Being a part of the HDA, we tried to lay out certain policies and efforts that impact the grassroots program and the whole education process," Kadri stated. "One of the very first things we require to do is begin informing the youth, the players, the personnel, so it's definitely a step in the best instructions."
