The Edmonton Oilers clawed their method to a comeback win on Tuesday and goalie Mike Smith thinks it's an outcome his group can truly develop on.
After decreasing 3-0 late in the very first period, the Oilers rallied and gradually climbed out of the hole to beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-3, making their fourth victory in a row.
"That win right there carries some weight to it," Smith said.
"We've scratched the surface now and now I believe we've gained some self-confidence in how our team can play."
The difference on Tuesday, he added, was how the Oilers stood up to a late push from the starving Canucks, securing the one-goal lead after Tyler Ennis broke a 3-3 deadlock midway through the 3rd period.
"We type of hunkered down and made sure they were going to need to make a real excellent play to beat us because game," said Smith, who made 30 conserves to gather his fifth win of the season.
"Being here for the last couple years, I've been in video games where that one slides far from us and escapes. And I think this evening, that was a great confidence home builder for everyone."
It's an outcome that might have some teachable moments going forward, stated Edmonton coach Dave Tippett.
"If we get another video game like this, then there's a belief that we can do it again," he stated. "We came in here, we didn't play in addition to we liked the first period, we improved as the video game went on. We understood we were playing a desperate group that's attempting to get back in the race.
