After three days off, the Oilers return to the ice tonight and will be looking to extend their season-long three-game winning streak. Yes, two of those wins came against the lowly Ottawa Senators but I think you can make the case that the Oilers are playing their best hockey of the year right now, and considering who their opponent is tonight, this is the perfect time to be playing good hockey. Tonight is the first regular-season Battle of Alberta in over 365 days and considering how the most recent games between these two teams went, it’s easy to see why both fan bases are eager for puck drop tonight.
Will the game tonight be as heated as the games last season? I wouldn’t bet on it but this rivalry is as strong as it’s been this century so anything is possible. Rivalry aside, this is a huge game in the North Division standings as well. The Oilers are three points up on the Flames but Calgary has played two fewer games. These two teams will play a total of ten times this year and honestly, they could very well be battling for the final playoff spot in the division right up until the end of the regular season. This game is huge.
