Winnipeg Jets legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Teemu Selanne has a new book out and will be in Winnipeg this weekend as part of a multi-city book tour in support of it’s launch.
Co-Written with Ari Mennander and simply titled “My Life”, it recalls his storied NHL career with the Winnipeg Jets, Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche, as well as has rare colour photos from his personal collection. The book takes a bit of a deeper look into his early formative years with the Jets and some of the obstacles and challenges he faced as he became a hockey superstar. The book actually featured two covers, one of the legend as he was taking part in the Jets Alumni game in 2016 as part of the Heritage Classic in Winnipeg, and a second cover that will be released mostly in the US with a more casual, straight forward looking Selanne.
This is actually the second book Selanne has written about his life. The first – also with the very simple title of “Teemu” – was written (again with Ari Mennander) and published in Finland back in 2014 shortly after he had finally retired from the game. In that book he had harsh words for then Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau which caused a bit of a stir, although Selanne admitted later that part of the book was written immediately after the Ducks had been eliminated in the second round of the 2014 playoffs and thus his words were from a more emotional state.
This new book written in English doesn’t look to be as controversial or emotionally charged although it does likely borrow tales and stories told in his Finnish version.
Selanne will be making two stops in the Winnipeg area on Sunday October 27. First he will be at the Chapters Polo Festival location between 12:30 and 1:30 PM, and then he will make a Finnish Flash like dash to the St. Vital Chapters and sign books there from 3 to 4 PM.
