Arizona acknowledged it understood about the event when it chose Miller 111th in general, however President and CEO Xavier Gutierrez said they renounced rights to Miller after finding out more about the event and the effect it had on the victim, Isaiah Meyer-Crothers. Meyer-Crothers told the Arizona Republic earlier in October he was saddened and shocked when he found out the Coyotes prepared Miller, who he stated teased him with racist language and consistently hit him when they were growing up in a residential area of Toledo.
