The Detroit Red Wings had their three-game winning streak snapped on Thursday against the Los Angeles Kings. They wrapped up their three-game road trip on Saturday against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center with a 4-3 shootout loss, going 2-0-2 on the trip.

Thoughts and Highlights

  • About midway through the second, Taro Hirose scored his first of the season, as Brendan Perlini made a heads-up play to find a wide-open Hirose.

  • About a minute later, Erik Karlsson gave the Sharks the lead again on a blast from the point on the power play.
  • Late in the third period, Athanasiou tied the game at 3-3 and scored his second of the game, off a cross-ice feed from Valtteri Filppula.

  • Labanc was the only player who scored in the shootout.

Gif of the Game

The Fabbri trade is looking better and better each game. Fabbri now has six points in five games with the Red Wings.

Motor City MVP

Andreas Athanasiou

With two goals against the Sharks, the 25-year-old is now up to 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 20 games. Athanasiou had been snake-bitten all season, and the chances were there. Now, the chances are starting to turn into goals.

He’ll have his work cut out for him if he wants to reach 30 again, considering he had 10 goals in his first 20 games last season.
