Sami Niku isn’t the only late round Winnipeg Jets draft pick worthy of your attention – although with another three assists this past week with the Manitoba Moose, we’re sure he still has it. Jets fans should also keep an eye on Declan Chisholm who continues to make strides of improvement with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League.

Chisholm followed up an appearance for Team OHL in the 2019 Canada / Russia Junior series on November 11 with two more games this past weekend. While his Petes were shutout 2-0 by the Barrie Colts on Saturday, Declan chipped in a goal and two assists in the Petes 6-5 OT win over the Niagra Ice Dogs, the goal being scored late in the third period to tie things up and send the game to overtime.

The Jets picked Chisholm 150th overall in the 2018 NHL draft and it’s looking like a very shrewd pick as he has 25 assists and 27 points in 20 games played this season. He is second in OHL defensemen in scoring and is third overall in the league in assists.

Santeri Virtanen was profiled this weekend by Steve Ellis of The Hockey News as one of his 10 NHL prospects thriving in Europe.

“Virtanen was one of Finland’s best U-20 players last year, and while he seemingly came out of nowhere before the Jets picked him in the fourth round in 2017 (105th overall), it looks like we still haven’t seen what Virtanen is fully capable of.”
