The second game of the World Junior Summer Showcase between Team USA Blue and Team Sweden came down to the final minutes. An overall entertaining game, however, a quiet one for Jonatan Berggren.
Berggren, drafted 33rd overall by the Red Wings in 2018, spent the game on the third line with some powerplay time. He failed to get on the score sheet, but this was just one of his first games back since his lengthy injury that ended his season in December. The only other on-ice action he has seen was at the Red Wings prospect development camp. Just getting out on the ice is a positive for the young Swede. There are still many high hopes for the promising prospect.
The aforementioned injury probably costed him at chance on the World Junior team. This camp is huge for him in terms of impressing the coaching staff. As one of the older players invited to participate, they’ll be looking for him to make an impact.
Continuing with our coverage of Wings prospects at the World Junior Summer Showcase, you’ll find Berggren’s game vs Team USA Blue from July 27 below. Berggren is number 26 for Team Sweden in the yellow jerseys.
